Probability and Statistics for Business

Description
This is a course in probability and statistics designed for students in the Bachelor of Business Administration program and other related programs. No background on probability or statistics is assumed. We discuss probability theory, descriptive statistics and statistical inference. The topics covered are: descriptive statistics, random variables, discrete and continuous probability distributions, sampling distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing, correlation and simple linear regression. Microsoft Excel is used throughout the course.

This course is the English version of MQT-1102 Probabilités et statistiques. Only one of those two courses will be accepted. This course, given in distance learning delivery mode, includes a few synchronous virtual classes, according to a predetermined schedule. Attendance at the synchronous classes is strongly recommended. Class recordings are made available for replay. Exceptions may apply when the nature of the content does not allow for recording. Details of the recordings per class are indicated in the course outline. If proctored exams are planned for this course, they require physical presence on campus or at one of the off-campus exam centres. They are held evenings and weekends and, where applicable, may therefore be held at times other than the scheduled synchronous class times.
