Data Mining and Exploration

Description
This course provides an introduction to data exploration and data mining. It is designed to familiarize students with dimensional data modeling, data warehousing, and data mining. The course focuses on topics such as dimensional data modeling, data warehousing, datamarts, DM development process, data preprocessing and exploration, statistical approaches to DM, k-nearest neighbor algorithm, decision trees, neural networks, etc. Learning activities include group projects using the R software tool.

This course is the English version of SIO-6003 Techniques de forage des données. Only one of these two courses will be recognized in a student’s program. The student is allowed to take assignments and exams in French. This course is offered in in-person delivery mode where classes are offered in the physical presence of the student and teacher, according to a pre-determined schedule. On-campus presence is required. Classes are not recorded. If proctored exams are planned for this course, they will take place on campus only and may be held at times other than the scheduled class times, including evenings and weekends.
