FSA ULaval’s Carmand-Normand and Jean-Turmel Trading Rooms and the Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate invite you to the 1st Symposium on Energy and Finance.
The purpose of the symposium is to bring together energy practitioners (producers, investors, inventors, infrastructure managers) and academics around relevant topics so as to meet the interests of all parties, initiate discussion and encourage cooperation.

Matt Kromer

Matt Kromer holds an M.S. in Technology & Policy as well as a B.S. and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
He is currently the Director of the Grid Integration Group at Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems in Boston. He leads research and development of next-generation renewable and smart grid systems for grid-connected and off-grid applications, taking new ideas from concept to demonstration.
With over a decade’s experience in the energy and defense industries, Matt Kromer’s expertise extends to grid-integration of PV systems, technology assessment of emerging energy technologies and embedded systems development.

Before he joined Fraunhofer CSE in 2014, Matt was the Program Manager for Advanced Technologies at Satcon Technology Corporation in Boston, where he spearheaded the development and demonstration of grid-smart inverters for solar, energy storage, and microgrid applications.
Matt previously held positions at TIAX LLC in Lexington, where his work focused on techno-economic analysis of sustainable energy in the transportation and power generation sector, and as a staff engineer at Draper Laboratory in Cambridge.
Andrea Roncoroni

Andrea Roncoroni holds a Ph.D. in Finance, a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, an M.S. in Mathematics and a B.S. in economics. In 2006, he participated in the International Teachers Program at IMD Business School.
He has been a Professor of Finance at the ESSEC Business School since 2010. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Bocconi University of Milan and Director of the Energy and Commodity Finance Research Center, ESSEC.
His research interests include energy and commodity markets and products, financial markets, options, as well as exotic derivatives.
For nearly 15 years, Andrea Roncoroni has spoken at conferences around the world on the topics of energy and finance.

Andrea Roncoroni holds a Ph.D. in Finance of Université Paris IX – Dauphine de France (2002), a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics of University Consortium of Italy (1999), an M.S. in Mathematics of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of the New York University (1998) and a B.S. in economics of Bocconi University of Milan, Italy (1995). In 2006, he participated in International Teachers Program at IMD Business School.
He has been a Professor of Finance at the ESSEC Business School, Paris and Singapour campus, since 2010. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Bocconi University of Milan for more than 17 years and Director of the Energy and Commodity Finance Research Center, ESSEC.
His research interests include energy and commodity markets and products, financial markets, options as well as exotic derivatives. His current research work focuses on commodity price arbitrage modeling, risk management of non-tradable corporate exposures, entropy forecasting of leptokuretic time series, and asset allocation in the context of liquidity frictions.

Betty Simkins

Betty J. Simkins holds a Ph.D. in Finance, an M.B.A. in Finance and Management Information Systems as well as a B.S.in Chemical Engineering. Before getting her Ph.D., she worked in the field of energy for Williams, Inc. and Conoco, Inc. and in the areas of corporate financial planning, research and development, and process engineering.
Currently, Betty Simkins is the Williams Companies Chair of Business and Full Professor of Finance and director of the Spears School of Business, Oklahoma State University. Her specialities include risk management, energy finance, enterprise risk management, corporate governance, the oil and gas industry, finance, valuation, and capital investment analysis.

Please note: Université Laval is located in Québec City, NOT in the City of Laval (which is near Montréal).
People flying to the Conference must make sure that their final destination is Québec City – Jean-Lesage International Airport – YQB. Québec City is located about 250 km (155 miles) from Montréal.
By plane
Jean-Lesage International Airport, located 16 km (10 miles) from downtown Québec City, can be reached via boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel (138) or autoroute Duplessis (540).
The airport offers direct service to and from major North American and European cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Newark, Chicago and Paris.

Getting to FSA ULaval
Conference location
All conference activities will be held at the Faculty of Business Administration of Université Laval (FSA ULaval), in the Palasis-Prince Building, 2325, rue de la Terrasse, Québec City.
The university is located about 6 km from downtown and is easily accessible with public transportation. We do not recommend walking to the university, unless you are staying at a hotel in the vicinity of the university in Sainte-Foy.
Public transit
You can easily travel around Québec City using the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC – Québec City’s public transit authorities). Bus fare is $3.50 (cash only). You can also obtain a reloadable and reusable OPUS bus card without picture for $6.

Entry requirement in Canada
New entry requirements are now in effect in Canada. All foreigners other than U.S. citizens are now expected to have either an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visitor visa to enter Canada.
Be prepared:

You will be required to enclose an invitation letter from the organizers of the 2019 AFFI Conference with your application. To obtain this letter, you must without delay:
