International experiential learning isn’t just about the travel: it’s learning by doing, broadening your horizons and developing in-demand skills in an ever-changing professional landscape.

Unlike a traditional study abroad experience that is mostly spent in class, these experiences place you in real-life environments where you can observe, collaborate, solve problems, create and navigate new challenges.

Each experience offers a different way to learn, where you can step outside your comfort zone and prepare for success in an increasingly interconnected world.

Admission requirements vary from one learning experience to another. Visit the page for the learning opportunity you’re interested in to find out the specific requirements, including the required program average, eligible programs, number of completed credits required and any applicable language requirements.

1. Check your eligibility

Make sure you meet all the admission requirements listed on the page for the learning opportunity you’re interested in.

2. Submit a file review request

Submit a file review request from the page for the learning opportunity you’re interested in. This will determine whether the learning opportunity can be credited toward your program of study and fits into your academic plan.

You must fill out the form during the designated application period. The form is available only during that period.

You may take part in up to two short-term international experiences (short study abroad stay or international experiential learning) during your program, providing your schedule allows it.

Under certain conditions, you can take part in an international experiential learning opportunity without it being credited toward your program of study. Uncredited learning opportunities are not eligible for mobility scholarships.

3. Pay the participation fee

Once you have received the results of your file review, you must pay the $75 non-refundable participation fee to confirm that you are interested in taking part in the learning opportunity you selected.

4. Get your confirmation

The international relations development department (Service du développement et des relations internationales) will allocate the available spots. If the number of applications is greater than the number of spots available, priority will be given to the students who have the best averages and already meet the language requirements.

Assignments are not first-come, first-served. For some learning opportunities, applications must be approved directly by the international partner or the academic lead responsible for the experience.

Your Université Laval tuition is calculated based on your student status and the number of credits associated with the learning opportunity. It will be added to your invoice for the applicable semester.
