Without Frontiers Internships
Creating Skilled and Engaged World Citizens
Through the Managers Without Frontiers internships, students enrolled in the M.Sc. in Management of International Development and Humanitarian Action can become involved in international cooperation and humanitarian action projects in developing countries. These internships of 3 months or longer are an opportunity for you to put the knowledge you have gained in your studies to use in real world applications.
More than 40 mandates are carried out around the world every year!

Training
As a pioneer in the field, FSA ULaval offers two MIDHA training programs: one specialized graduate degree (DESS) that can be completed in the classroom or entirely through distance learning, and a professional master’s degree (M.Sc.), each of which qualifies students to complete a Managers Without Frontiers internship.
Location, duration and
admission conditions
GIE-6528 The internship in management of international development and humanitarian action
- is worth 6 credits
- can be completed after acquiring at least 30 program credits, including all compulsory credits
- must last at least 12 weeks on a full-time basis (35 hours/week)
The internship must be completed at an NGO, an NPO, a cooperative or any active organization in terms of humanitarian action, international development, or as part of social and solidarity economy programs in a developing country. Internships may also be completed at the head offices of international organizations (UN, UNDP, ILO, UNESCO, Red Cross, etc.) involved in international development or humanitarian action.
The internship strengthens an organization’s administrative capacities by incorporating the knowledge acquired by the student. As an intern, you will be on the field to manage the problematic situations inherent to managing international aid projects: limited resources, operations in hostile environments, cultural differences, coordination among donor agencies, etc.
Exceptionally, an internship may be completed in Canada in cases such as those related to health issues and other reasons deemed valid by the program directorate. The mandate must be carried out with a local NGO as part of its international activities. International students who find themselves in such a situation must comply with immigration rules by, among other things, obtaining a special permit from Canada Citizenship and Immigration.
Search for an internship
location and financing
The search for an internship location remains the primary responsibility of the students. They are responsible for adequately defining their career goals, their competencies and their personal limitations in order to develop an internship project that is realistic and that meets both their expectations and the program’s university criteria. They are accompanied in this process by the Managers Without Frontiers coordinator and other campus resource persons, including Université Laval’s Student Placement Services (SPLA) and International Office.
