{"id":18982,"date":"2023-05-17T13:43:45","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T17:43:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fsa.ulaval.ca\/?page_id=18982"},"modified":"2024-04-16T15:12:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T19:12:03","slug":"language-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fsa.ulaval.ca\/en\/student-hub\/mba-global-business-study-guide\/language-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Language requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>French-language proficiency is a graduation requirement for the Global Business MBA Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"french-proficiency\" class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-select-nav\"><nav role=\"tablist\" class=\"baseul-dropdown-nav\"><label for=\"choix-francais\" class=\"baseul-dropdown-label\"><strong>To demonstrate your French proficiency, you have 4 options.<\/strong><\/label><select class=\"baseul-dropdown baseul-dropdown-yellow\" id=\"choix-francais\" aria-controls=\"francais\"><option id=\"francais_1_label\" value=\"francais_1\" selected>&#8212; Select your option &#8212;<\/option><option id=\"francais_2_label\" value=\"francais_2\">Option 1 &#8211; You have completed prior education in French.<\/option><option id=\"francais_3_label\" value=\"francais_3\">Option 2 &#8211; You do not have prior education in French, but you are a native speaker.<\/option><option id=\"francais_4_label\" value=\"francais_4\">Option 3 \u2013 You have some knowledge of French &#8211; Register for the TCF (tout public) test.<\/option><option id=\"francais_5_label\" value=\"francais_5\">Option 4 \u2013 You have little or no knowledge of French &#8211; Enroll in FLS courses<\/option><\/select><\/nav><div id=\"francais\">\n<div id=\"francais_1\" aria-labelledby=\"francais_1_label\" class=\"baseul-dropdown-nav-item\">\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"francais_2\" aria-labelledby=\"francais_2_label\" hidden class=\"baseul-dropdown-nav-item\">\n<p>You are deemed to satisfy the French proficiency requirement if you have completed any of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>elementary or secondary education in French;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a Diploma of College Studies (DCS) in French in Qu\u00e9bec and passed the uniform French test; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a university degree in French.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"francais_3\" aria-labelledby=\"francais_3_label\" hidden class=\"baseul-dropdown-nav-item\">\n<p>Since we assess your French proficiency on the basis of the language of instruction in your prior education, and not whether French is your first language, you may have to prove you have the required level of French proficiency as indicated in your offer of admission. If you are a native French speaker, please contact us at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:etudes@fsa.ulaval.ca\">etudes@fsa.ulaval.ca<\/a>&nbsp;for a short oral interview for validation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"francais_4\" aria-labelledby=\"francais_4_label\" hidden class=\"baseul-dropdown-nav-item\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recommended-for-students-with-some-knowledge-intermediate-of-french\">Recommended for students with some knowledge (intermediate) of French<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At Universit\u00e9 Laval, the Test de fran\u00e7ais (TCF tout public), fran\u00e7ais langue \u00e9trang\u00e8re ou seconde is used to determine French proficiency. You must obtain the following scores:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>compulsory exams \u2013 at least&nbsp;<strong>300 out of 699<\/strong>&nbsp;(TCF-TP);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>written expression exam \u2013 at least&nbsp;<strong>2 out of 20<\/strong>&nbsp;(TCF-TP\/E\u00c9).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The results of other tests may be considered if they include a written expression component and were taken within the previous 2 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsh.ulaval.ca\/ecole-langues\/tests-competences-langagieres\/francais-langue-etrangere-ou-seconde\">Register for the Test de fran\u00e7ais (TCF tout public) \u2013 in French only<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"francais_5\" aria-labelledby=\"francais_5_label\" hidden class=\"baseul-dropdown-nav-item\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recommended-for-students-with-little-or-no-knowledge-of-french\">Recommended for students with little or no knowledge of French<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At Universit\u00e9 Laval, the \u00c9cole de langues (\u00c9LUL) offers a series of French as a foreign language courses throughout the year. The level of proficiency required to graduate corresponds to the course titled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulaval.ca\/etudes\/cours\/fls-1114-langue-orale-et-ecrite-ii\">FLS-1114<\/a>&nbsp;Langue orale et \u00e9crite II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before enrolling in a French course, you must take an online placement test (Test Laval). The \u00c9LUL uses the results of this test to recommend French courses that are appropriate for your level of proficiency. To register, contact the \u00c9LUL at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:fls@elul.ulaval.ca\">fls@elul.ulaval.ca<\/a>&nbsp;and indicate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>your name;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your NI (UL Identification Number);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>your program (Global Business MBA); and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the purpose of your email (you wish to register for an FLS course).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have taken your test, you must contact us at etudes@fsa.ulaval.ca to let us know the result of your test and the course(s) in which you will be enrolled. We can then help you plan your academic pathway over the subsequent semesters to ensure you satisfy the requirements without delaying your graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two charts provided below list all of the courses you have to pass in order to achieve the required level (fall, winter and summer).
