Any absence from or inability to attend an evaluation other than a midterm or final exam must be reported to the course instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Program Directorate is responsible for enforcing the <strong>Exam Absence Policy<\/strong> for FSA ULaval courses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-absences-from-an-exam\">Absences from an exam<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-blue\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Admissible-reasons-absence-exam\" id=\"Admissible-reasons-absence-exam_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Admissible reasons for absence from an exam<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Admissible-reasons-absence-exam\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Admissible-reasons-absence-exam_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scheduling-conflicts-with-other-exams\">Scheduling conflicts with other exams<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the semester, students must ensure that their exam schedules do not conflict in any way, including for courses offered by other faculties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scheduling conflicts can be accommodated if the student is enrolled in an FSA ULaval program and the courses that conflict are mandatory for their program of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the event of any other scheduling conflict that does not meet these criteria, the student must change their course selection before the course drop deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:#E30513\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Scheduling conflicts must be declared during the first week of classes.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-death-or-funeral-of-a-loved-one\">Death or funeral of a loved one<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The student must provide an obituary or other proof of death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:#E30513\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Requests for an absence due to a death must be submitted as soon as possible and no later than three days after the exam date.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-illness\">Illness<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A student who chooses to take an exam despite medical incapacity cannot subsequently be considered eligible to postpone an exam for the same reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A medical note is required in the following situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>two or more absences in a single semester for medical reasons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>any absence of more than five days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>repeated requests or requests deemed excessive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an absence from a postponed exam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For a medical note to be deemed valid, it must be issued by a health professional and contain the following information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the contact information of the health professional, as well as their signature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the expected start and end dates of the incapacity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the limitations caused by the student\u2019s health condition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:#E30513\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Illness-related absence requests must be submitted as soon as possible and no later than three days after the exam date.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-student-parents\">Student parents<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Students recognized as parents under the Politique relative aux \u00e9tudiantes et aux \u00e9tudiants parents (Universit\u00e9 Laval website) (French only) may request an accommodation for a serious reason related to parental responsibilities or pregnancy, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>childbirth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>miscarriage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>termination of pregnancy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>childhood illness requiring a child to be kept at home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following conditions apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A student parent certificate issued by Universit\u00e9 Laval must be provided as supporting documentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The request will be reviewed using the same criteria that apply to absences for medical reasons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:#E30513\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Absence requests for serious parental duties must be submitted as soon as possible and no later than three days after the exam date.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-other-exceptional-reasons\">Other exceptional reasons<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Program Directorate may authorize absences for other serious reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:#E30513\" class=\"has-inline-color has-white-color\">Absence requests for exceptional reasons will only be considered if submitted as soon as the student becomes aware of the circumstances. Any delay in submitting the request may be grounds for refusal, even if the reason for absence is valid.<\/mark><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-blue\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Examples-reasons-admissible-request-postpone-exam\" id=\"Examples-reasons-admissible-request-postpone-exam_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Examples of reasons deemed inadmissible for a request to postpone an exam<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Examples-reasons-admissible-request-postpone-exam\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Examples-reasons-admissible-request-postpone-exam_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trip planning or purchase of plane tickets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Errors regarding the time or location of the exam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job-related scheduling constraints<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Technological issues (students are responsible for ensuring that they have proper computer equipment and a reliable internet connection with sufficient capacity for taking online exams)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Issues related to regular parental responsibilities, including regular childcare arrangements for one or more children<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weddings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-blue\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Terms-conditions-exam-postponement\" id=\"Terms-conditions-exam-postponement_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Terms and conditions for exam postponement<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Terms-conditions-exam-postponement\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Terms-conditions-exam-postponement_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Only one exam per course may be postponed to a later semester. If a student misses more than one exam from the same course, they will have to retake the entire course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even if the student has submitted a valid reason for absence, their request will only be considered if their overall performance suggests that they have a reasonable chance of passing the course for which the request is being made.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The postponed exam will be rescheduled for the next semester in which the course is offered. Students are responsible for reaching out to that semester\u2019s course instructor to find out what material will be covered on the exam. Access to the course website will be granted at the beginning of the semester to allow the student to view the course materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The grade the student receives on the postponed exam will be used to determine their average for the semester in which they took the course. The final grade will be established in accordance with the grading scale in effect for that course section and semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absence from a postponed exam automatically leads to a grade of &#8220;0&#8221; for that evaluation, unless the absence is warranted by a reason deemed sufficiently serious, in accordance with this policy.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A medical note is required to justify an absence for medical purposes from a postponed exam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No accommodation will be granted to change the evaluation format. For example, a scheduled in-person exam cannot be replaced with an online exam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unless otherwise specified in a medical note, any reported absence is deemed to apply to all activities scheduled during the relevant period. This means that attending a class or participating in another summative assessment or any other activity renders the reported absence invalid and results in a grade of zero (0) for the relevant summative assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:3%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:97%\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-fake-h3\" id=\"h-procedure-for-reporting-an-absence-from-an-exam\">Procedure for reporting an absence from an exam<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT \u2014 Reviewing the three sections above regarding eligible reasons, inadmissible grounds, and the terms and conditions for rescheduling an exam is a prerequisite to submitting a request. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Requests for exam absences must be submitted using the <a href=\"https:\/\/cours.fsa.ulaval.ca\/reportexamen\/\/auth\/landing.aspx\">online form<\/a> (in french only) provided for this purpose and must not be addressed directly to the teaching staff or the department responsible for the course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only requests that meet the criteria of the <strong>Exam Absence Policy<\/strong> will be considered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any request received after the deadlines specified for each reason will be denied, unless a physical incapacity (e.g., hospitalization) that prevented the submission of the supporting documentation within the prescribed timeframe can be demonstrated.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-lightgrey-background-color has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grade-review-procedure\">Grade review procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-blue\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"strongGrade-reviewprocedurestrong\" id=\"strongGrade-reviewprocedurestrong_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\"><strong>Grade review procedure<\/strong><\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"strongGrade-reviewprocedurestrong\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"strongGrade-reviewprocedurestrong_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-1\">Step 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Schedule an appointment with your teacher to consult the graded evaluation and receive his or her comments. For distance courses, please contact your teacher, who will then explain the grade via email, by telephone or in a videoconference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2\">Step 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If, after completing step 1, you believe you were the victim of an error or unfair treatment, you can apply for a grade review. Evaluations carried out by a panel of 3 members or more do not qualify for a grade review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-deadlines\">Deadlines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The review must be submitted within <strong>10 business days <\/strong>of the date on which you received the grade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your teacher has <strong>10 business days<\/strong> to reply. Note that a grade can be maintained, <strong>increased or lowered<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-midgrey-background-color has-background wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/cours.fsa.ulaval.ca\/revisionnote\/auth\/landing.aspx\">Grade review form (In French only)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3\">Step 3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you remain dissatisfied with your teacher&#8217;s reply, you have <strong>10 business days<\/strong> to appeal the decision using the online form. Your appeal will be forwarded to the department head and a committee of teachers. They have <strong>20 business days<\/strong> to decide on a final grade, which is not subject to further appeal.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-academic-accommodation\">Academic accommodation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-blue\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"accommodations-measures\" id=\"accommodations-measures_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\"><strong>Academic accommodation measures<\/strong><\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"accommodations-measures\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accommodations-measures_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<p>Here are some examples of admissible disabilities and disorders:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>visual impairment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hearing impairment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>motor impairment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>organic impairment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>learning disorder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>attention deficit disorder\/hyperactivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>psychological disorder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>autism spectrum disorder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-obtain-accommodation-measures-for-your-exams\">How to obtain accommodation measures for your exams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-before-the-start-of-the-semester\">Before the start of the semester<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the start of the semester, obtain an attestation letter from the Centre d&#8217;aide aux \u00e9tudiants by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aide.ulaval.ca\/situation-de-handicap\/prise-de-rendez-vous\/\">scheduling an appointment with an advisor <\/a>(available in French only) as soon as possible. Your advisor will work with you to determine which academic accommodation measures to put in place and give you an attestation letter that will remain valid for the entire duration of your studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-during-the-first-2-weeks-of-the-semester\">During the first 2 weeks of the semester:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact your teachers to make sure the academic accommodation measures specified in the attestation letter are compatible with the course&#8217;s requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send your attestation letter to the Centre des examens at <a href=\"mailto:Examens.Accommodements@fsa.ulaval.ca\">Examens.Accommodements@fsa.ulaval.ca<\/a>. This letter specifies the academic accommodation measures to be put in place and includes a complete list of your midterm and final exams. If you are taking your exams off campus, also send your letter to <a href=\"mailto:accommodement@bse.ulaval.ca\">accommodement@bse.ulaval.ca<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-one-week-before-the-start-of-your-exams\">One week before the start of your exams<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>make sure you have received the exam notice that confirms your accommodation measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-if-you-have-not-received-the-attestation-letter-by-the-first-2-weeks-of-the-semester\">If you have not received the attestation letter by the first 2 weeks of the semester<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We ask that you notify the Centre des examens of that fact by email at <a href=\"mailto:Examens.Accommodements@fsa.ulaval.ca\">Examens.Accommodements@fsa.ulaval.ca<\/a> and indicate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The date of your appointment with the Centre d&#8217;aide aux \u00e9tudiants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your entitlement to accommodation measures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A complete list of your midterm and final exams for the semester in question<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-deadline-5-business-days\">Deadline: 5 business days<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You must submit your attestation letter <strong>at least 5 business days before the date of the exam.<\/strong> If your letter is submitted within 5 business days, accommodation measures will be put in place for your next exam.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-lightgrey-background-color has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-faculty-rules-for-all-exams\">Faculty rules for all exams<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty reserves the right to amend and\/or adapt certain rules without prior notice on the basis of a given situation and\/or particularities of given exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-blue\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Online-exams\" id=\"Online-exams_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Online exams<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Online-exams\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Online-exams_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-questionnaires-or-exams-to-be-submitted-via-a-drop-box\">Questionnaires or exams to be submitted via a drop box<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are unable to attend an online exam, a grade of 0 will be assigned to that evaluation, unless the reason for the absence is admissible for an exam postponement. In such a case, you will have to <a href=\"https:\/\/cours.fsa.ulaval.ca\/reportexamen\/\/auth\/landing.aspx\">fill out the exam postponement form<\/a> (in French only) no later than 5 business days after the date of the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-management-of-exams-submitted-late-in-a-drop-box\">Management of exams submitted late in a drop box<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No additional minutes will be granted <\/strong>after the period of time prescribed by the teacher has expired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are late to submit an exam, a penalty will apply or a grade of 0 will be assigned to that evaluation, unless the reason for the late submission is deemed admissible (e.g. illness, death of a loved one, etc.).
