MFA makes it possible to validate an individual\u2019s identity during the authentication process on a ULaval system. The purpose of this is to provide increased security for the account and computer systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MFA is required in the following situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to log in to monPortail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to log in to the Web version of Office 365 (email, Office 365 portal including Teams and Azure)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to activate the Office 365 suite installed on a computer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to log in to the Teams application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to log in to the ULaval VPN client account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-style-column-frame-red is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-good-to-know\">Good to Know<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MFA cannot be deactivated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using at least two validation methods is highly recommended (one on your cell phone and one on the computer you will be using on a regular basis)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The APTI Help Desk recommends using Microsoft Authenticator as the main method<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Although other methods can be used, the APTI Help Desk only provides support for the methods presented on this page<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-configure-mfa\">How to Configure MFA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to configure MFA, you can choose any of the methods indicated below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-onglets baseul-onglets-red\"><nav role=\"tablist\" class=\"tabs-navigation\"><button role=\"tab\" id=\"onglet_1_label\" aria-selected=\"true\" aria-controls=\"onglet_1\" type=\"button\" class=\"current-tab\"><span class=\"tab-title\">Microsoft Authenticator<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Android, Chromebook and iOS<\/span><\/button><button role=\"tab\" id=\"onglet_2_label\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-controls=\"onglet_2\" type=\"button\" class=\"\"><span class=\"tab-title\">Phone<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Text message or phone call<\/span><\/button><button role=\"tab\" id=\"onglet_3_label\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-controls=\"onglet_3\" type=\"button\" class=\"\"><span class=\"tab-title\">OTP Manager<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Windows and MacOS<\/span><\/button><\/nav><div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"onglet_1\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"onglet_1_label\" class=\"tab-panel\"><button aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"onglet_1\" type=\"button\" class=\"tab-mobile-trigger\"><span class=\"tab-title\">Phone<\/span><\/button><div class=\"tab-inner\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<p>By selecting this option, you will receive all identity validation requests directly in Microsoft Authenticator. This is much simpler and quicker than by phone. However, you will need to install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device and always keep it handy. Having a cellular or data plan is not necessary to receive identity validation requests from Microsoft Authenticator. If you have Internet access at the various locations where you will need to use MFA, the wireless network on the mobile device is enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-group-notif-grey is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>If you have uninstalled Microsoft Authenticator or deleted your ULaval account from the app, your Microsoft Authenticator verification method will no longer work, and the instructions below do not apply. You must call us so that we can reset your MFA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-red\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogincomputerwithamobiledevice\" id=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogincomputerwithamobiledevice_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Configuring Microsoft Authenticator at the first login (computer with a mobile device)<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogincomputerwithamobiledevice\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogincomputerwithamobiledevice_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<p>This procedure configures Microsoft Authenticator on an iOS or Android cell phone using a laptop computer. notifications and agree to the terms of use<br>Use facial recognition, your fingerprint or enter your phone\u2019s PIN, if any of these methods have been configured on your device<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait for your ULaval account to be added<br>Once the operation has been completed, it will appear on the Microsoft Authenticator home page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Back on the QR code webpage in your Web browser, click on&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong><br>You should receive an identity validation request in Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write the number appearing on the Web page to approve the connection, then click on&nbsp;<strong>Yes<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the login has been approved, click on fingerprint or enter your phone\u2019s PIN, if any of these methods have been configured on your device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the app, select your ULaval account<br>A 6-digit code will appear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On your computer\u2019s web page, enter the 6-digit code indicated in the Microsoft Authenticator app and click on <strong>Verify<\/strong><br><strong>IMPORTANT \u2013<\/strong> This code is valid for 30 seconds. If you do not have access to a laptop computer, ask someone for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have already set up MFA for your account, follow the steps presented in <strong>Adding another validation method by phone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the Web browser of your choice, go to the Office 365 portal: <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.office.com\/\">portal.office.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sign in:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Username: <a href=\"mailto:IDUL@ulaval.ca\">IDUL@ulaval.ca<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Password: PIN<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Let\u2019s keep your account secure<\/strong> window will appear. Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Other options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Phone<\/strong> from the list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indicate the country with the area code and the phone number and click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the 6-digit code you will receive by text message in the validation window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once everything has been validated, click on <strong>Done<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You have configured your phone to validate your identity. If you need to validate your identity from various locations, this is the simplest and most efficient way to do so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You do not need to have a cell phone or data plan to validate your identity unless you intend to receive calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Authenticator can be used Offline, without Internet access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Authenticator is really much simpler, quicker and more efficient than any other method.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you don\u2019t have a mobile device, you can validate your identity from several locations, but doing so will be more complicated and could require the intervention of a friend or relative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scenario-1-you-have-a-laptop-computer\">Scenario #1: You have a laptop computer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With a laptop computer, we recommend installing and using OTP Manager on your laptop and always have it with you. Given that OTP Manager is installed from the Microsoft Store, you do not need administrator rights to install it. However, if applications from the Microsoft Store have been deactivated or rejected by your organization, you will have to contact your organization\u2019s IT department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To install and configure OTP Manager, follow the steps outlined in the <strong>OTP Manager section<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scenario-2-you-don-t-have-a-laptop-computer\">Scenario #2: You don\u2019t have a laptop computer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This scenario is the most problematic, as it involves using landline phones to validate your identity.
