MFA makes it possible to validate an individual\u2019s identity during the authentication process on a ULaval system. The purpose of this is to provide increased security for the account and computer systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MFA is required in the following situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>for every login to the ULaval VPN client;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>for every login to monPortail;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>for every login to the Web version of Office 365 (email, Office 365 portal including Teams and Azure);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>upon activation of the Office 365 installed on a computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the Teams application may also require identity validation when logging in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-style-column-frame-red is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-good-to-know\">Good to Know<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MFA cannot be deactivated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The use of at least two different methods is highly recommended (one on your mobile device and another on your main computer).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The APTI Help Desk recommends the use of Microsoft Authenticator as the primary method.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identity validation applications other than those presented on this page may also be used.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The APTI Help Desk only provides support for the validation methods presented on this page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-configure-mfa\">How to Configure MFA<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to configure MFA, you can choose any of the methods indicated below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-onglets baseul-onglets-red\"><nav role=\"tablist\" class=\"tabs-navigation\"><button role=\"tab\" id=\"onglet_1_label\" aria-selected=\"true\" aria-controls=\"onglet_1\" type=\"button\" class=\"current-tab\"><span class=\"tab-title\">Microsoft Authenticator<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Android, Chromebook and iOS<\/span><\/button><button role=\"tab\" id=\"onglet_2_label\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-controls=\"onglet_2\" type=\"button\" class=\"\"><span class=\"tab-title\">Phone<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Text message or phone call<\/span><\/button><button role=\"tab\" id=\"onglet_3_label\" aria-selected=\"false\" aria-controls=\"onglet_3\" type=\"button\" class=\"\"><span class=\"tab-title\">OTP Manager<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Windows and MacOS<\/span><\/button><\/nav><div class=\"tab-content\">\n<div id=\"onglet_1\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"onglet_1_label\" class=\"tab-panel\"><button aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"onglet_1\" type=\"button\" class=\"tab-mobile-trigger\"><span class=\"tab-title\">Phone<\/span><\/button><div class=\"tab-inner\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<p>By selecting this option, you will receive all identity validation requests directly in Microsoft Authenticator. This is much simpler and quicker than by phone. However, you will need to have your mobile device handy and install Microsoft Authenticator on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-group-notif-grey is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Having a cellular or data plan is not necessary. If you have access to Internet at the various locations where you will need to use MFA, the wireless network on the mobile device is enough. Authenticator can also be used offline, with no Internet access.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-red\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogin\" id=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogin_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Configuring Microsoft Authenticator at the first login<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogin\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Configuring-MicrosoftAuthenticatoratthefirstlogin_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<p>If you have already configured MFA for your account, follow the steps indicated in <strong>Adding another validation method with Microsoft Authenticator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.<br><strong>IMPORTANT &#8211;<\/strong> Click on the link for your mobile device model:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apple iOS: <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/microsoft-authenticator\/id983156458\">Microsoft Authenticator on the App Store (apple.com)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Android: <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.azure.authenticator&amp;pli=1\">Microsoft Authenticator \u2012 Applications on Google Play<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once installed, launch <strong>Microsoft Authenticator<\/strong> and agree to the terms of use. <br>If you have configured a security code for your mobile device, you may be asked to enter it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are asked to add an account, click on <strong>Scan a QR code<\/strong>.<br>Otherwise, click on <strong>+<\/strong> and then on <strong>Professional or school account<\/strong>. Then, click on <strong>Scan a QR code. <\/strong>Your mobile device is ready to scan the QR code.<br><strong>NOTE &#8211; <\/strong>The use of a computer is recommended to complete the following steps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In your preferred Web browser, navigate to the Office 365 portal: <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.office.com\">portal.office.com<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sign in:\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Username: IDUL@ulaval.ca<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Password: PIN<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The window <strong>More information required<\/strong> appears. Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The next window offers to install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Next <\/strong>a second time to start the configuration. On the following page, a unique QR code for your account appears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device, at the Scan a QR code step, scan the QR code displayed on the webpage.<br><strong>NOTE \u2013<\/strong> You may have to allow Microsoft Authenticator to access your mobile device\u2019s camera.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After the scan, your ULaval account should be added in Microsoft Authenticator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Back on the QR code webpage in your Web browser, click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You should receive an identity validation request in Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write the number appearing on the Web page to approve the connection, then click on <strong>Yes<\/strong> (or on the check box).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once done, Microsoft Authenticator is configured and ready to use. Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>I want to set up a different method<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Phone<\/strong> in the list, click on <strong>Add<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indicate the country with the area code and phone number.<br><strong>Note <\/strong>&#8211; Only the <strong>Receive a code<\/strong> method is available during the configuration of a first method.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the 6-digits code that you will receive via text messages in the validation window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once everything has been validated, click on <strong>Finish<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You have configured your phone to validate your identity. The connection will be authorized.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"onglet_3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"onglet_3_label\" class=\"tab-panel\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"onglet_3\" type=\"button\" class=\"tab-mobile-trigger\"><span class=\"tab-title\">OTP Manager<\/span><span class=\"tab-subtitle\">Windows and MacOS<\/span><\/button><div class=\"tab-inner\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<p>By selecting this option, a 6-digit code is automatically generated (every 30 seconds) in OTP Manager. This is much quicker and simpler than by phone. However, you will need to have your computer handy and install OTP Manager on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-baseul-block-accordeon baseul-accordeon-red\"><h2 class=\"toggler-title-wrap\"><button aria-expanded=\"false\" class=\"toggler-button\" aria-controls=\"Installing-OTPManageronyourcomputer\" id=\"Installing-OTPManageronyourcomputer_label\"><span class=\"toggler-title\">Installing OTP Manager on your computer<\/span><\/button><\/h2><div id=\"Installing-OTPManageronyourcomputer\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"Installing-OTPManageronyourcomputer_label\" class=\"toggler-panel\" hidden>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-group-notif-grey is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Installing OTP Manager from the Microsoft Store does not require you to log in as an administrator on your computer. If you need to validate your identity from various locations, this is the simplest and most efficient way to do so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You do not need to have a cell phone or data plan to validate your identity unless you intend to receive calls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Authenticator can be used Offline, without Internet access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft Authenticator is really much simpler, quicker and more efficient than any other method.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you don\u2019t have a mobile device, you can validate your identity from several locations, but doing so will be more complicated and could require the intervention of a friend or relative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scenario-1-you-have-a-laptop-computer\">Scenario #1: You have a laptop computer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>With a laptop computer, we recommend installing and using OTP Manager on your laptop and always have it with you. Given that OTP Manager is installed from the Microsoft Store, you do not need administrator rights to install it. However, if applications from the Microsoft Store have been deactivated or rejected by your organization, you will have to contact your organization\u2019s IT department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To install and configure OTP Manager, follow the steps outlined in the <strong>OTP Manager section<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scenario-2-you-don-t-have-a-laptop-computer\">Scenario #2: You don\u2019t have a laptop computer<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This scenario is the most problematic, as it involves using landline phones to validate your identity.
