Agency theory to explain the relationship between client-consultant in the implementation of ERP: application to the financial sector in Africa

This presentation concerns a study carried out – in connection with GAMMA and microfinance institutions as fields of study – in Sub-Saharan Africa between 2019 and 2021 on implementing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). In this presentation, we are particularly interested in client–consultant relationships in ERP integration projects. Two main results emerge from this part of the study in the form of two articles. The first article, which is qualitative, answers three primary research questions: (i) How does client–consultant interaction affect the outcome of ERP implementation projects, and (ii) how can this interaction be managed effectively to ensure successful project outcomes? The outcome was a proposal of an ERP implementation model based on the agency theory and the Delone and McLean information systems (IS) success model. The second article, which is quantitative, aims to elucidate how managing client–consultant agency affects the benefits derived from ERP systems in microfinance institutions in the sub-Saharan context.
