Sustainable procurement is broadly regarded as an important policy instrument for achieving socio-economic and environmental objectives. But what are the facts and figures that support this assessment? In an effort to gauge progress in SP implementation, the United Nations Environment Programme released the third edition of its Sustainable Public Procurement Global Review last month. This report provides important insight into the current state of sustainable procurement, as well as progress in the development of sustainable public procurement policies, implementation activities and monitoring efforts among national governments. It also explores the diffusion of sustainable procurement to the private sector, international organizations, and the role of supporting entities.
