NOTE – Many Web browsers are available to the users. The APTI Help Desk mentions the 4 mainly used, but the tips mentioned on this page are also applicable to other Web browsers.
When you face a display or loading problem on a UL or FSA ULaval web page, it could be caused by a problem with the cache. Here is how to empty the cache or the browsing data.
- Clear the cache in Edge
- Clear the cache in Chrome
- Clear the cache in Firefox
- Clear the cache in Safari
IMPORTANT – You must empty the browsing history at Every moment or All the data to solve your problem.
Extensions in the Web browsers are small modules or Apps allowing you to personalize the appearance or the functionalities of the browser (e.g.: ads blocker, translation module, etc.)
Although these extensions can improve the browsing experience, they can also prevent certain pages or systems from working (e.g. : Impossibility to go to the next page in a questionnaire in monPortail).
NOTE – When it is necessary to fix the problem quickly, favour private browsing.
To fix the situation or to prevent the problem repeating itself, it might be necessary to deactivate or to delete the problematic extension. To identify the problematic extension, deactivate one extension at a time and check if the problem is solved.
A user’s profile in the Web browser allows the personalization of the environment and to reuse it on various devices by simply logging in. This profile contains data such as favorites, cookies, browsing history, saved passwords, and browser settings.
However, if you use profiles in your browser, it is possible that you encounter problems displaying some websites, even in private browsing, since all the elements of your profile are still present in that window.
Both Chrome and Edge offer a guest mode to isolate your Web browsing from your profile.
The Guest mode in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge is essentially a guest profile for your browsing sessions. When you are using the guest mode, the browser will not load your main browsing profiles (the ones containing your browsing history, the browser’s personalization, etc.). At the end of your browsing session, when all the windows in guest mode have been closed, all the browsing data will be deleted.
For Firefox and Safari instead, you must create different profiles and switch between them to those:
