English Proficiency

Applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English-language proficiency when they submit their admission application.

Applicants do not have to provide proof of English-language proficiency if they meet either of the following conditions:

• they completed their elementary and secondary education in English
• they received a university degree in English

If in doubt, the program directorate may ask an applicant to take a language test.

Placement Test

Functional proficiency in English may be satisfied by passing one of the following tests:

• IELTS (International English Language Testing System) «Academic Training»: 6.5/9
• PET (Pearson English Language Test): 53/90
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Paper Based: 549/650
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Internet Based Test: 79/120
• TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): 750/990

In all cases, the test must have been successfully completed within the previous 2 years and the results must be submitted along with the application.

Graduation average

The student must maintain a program average of B- (2.67 out of 4.33) to obtain his MBA degree from Université Laval.

French Proficiency

Functional proficiency in French is a graduation requirement for this program. Proof of proficiency may be provided by passing any of the following:

• the Test de connaissance du français tout public with
  • a score of at least 300 out of 699 on the compulsory tests (TCF-TP)
  • AND a score at least 2 out of 20 on the written expression test (TCF-TP/EÉ)
• OR the course titled FLS-1114 Langue orale et écrite (intermédiaire) (or another course deemed equivalent) with a minimum grade of C

Students who do not obtain the required result must do whatever is necessary to satisfy the minimum requirement before graduation. It should be noted that language courses do not count towards the credit requirements of master’s-level programs.

Applicants do not have to provide proof of French-language proficiency if they meet either of the following conditions:

• they completed their elementary and secondary education in French
• they received a university degree in French

If in doubt, the program directorate may ask an applicant to take a language test.

Candidates with no knowledge of French may meet satisfy this requirement by successfully completing three French courses at the École de langues de l’Université Laval (ÉLUL). The ÉELUL may recommend make-up courses, and a range of intensive programs is available throughout the year.

Provided they include a written expression component, results from other tests may be considered:

• TFI (Test de français international)
• TEF (Test d'évaluation en français)
• DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française)

In all cases, the test must have been successfully completed within the previous 2 years and the results must be submitted along with the application.
