General Objectives

This microprogram explores a major aspect of the accounting profession, i.e., taxation. You will understand its terminology and acquire knowledge about the tax rules and their application in the Canadian business context.

Specific Objectives

  • Learn the fundamentals of taxation.
  • Learn about the taxation rules and laws in the Canadian system.
  • Understand the tax issues faced by individuals and companies.
  • Understand the tax issues faced by owners of sole proprietorships, partners in a corporation and shareholder officers or officers of a corporation.
  • Understand the tax issues faced by various corporate reorganizations, such as the sale of a business, estate freezing or business mergers.
  • Learn about financial planning issues.
  • Identify certain taxation optimization strategies in various contexts.
  • Incorporate taxation with concerns surrounding financial accounting, business law and corporate finance.

Courses in this microprogram may be recognized, in whole or in part, if you continue your studies in the Certificate in Accounting and Management (in French only), the Bachelor of Business Administration (in French only), the Bachelor of Business Administration – Public Accounting (in French only) or the Multidisciplinary Bachelor’s program (in French only) (complementary training).
