Admission requirements

You must satisfy the conditions of your home university to participate in the bilateral exchange program.

For the fee-paying exchange program, you must satisfy the following conditions:

From France

For bachelor’s-level courses

Baccalauréat général, with a specialization in mathematics in the final year: at least 12/20 in mathematics and general average in the baccalauréat exam results
Baccalauréat général, without a specialization in mathematics in the final year or baccalauréat technologique: at least 13/20 in mathematics and general average in the baccalauréat exam results
University studies: general average of at least 12/20

For master’s level courses

Hold a licence diploma
AND
Meet the admission requirements for bachelor’s level courses

French

Non-Francophone students

To enrol in business courses given in French, you must provide proof of French language proficiency. We accept the Test de français international (TFI 860), the Diplôme d’études de langue française (DELF) and the Test de connaissances du français (TCF C1), or any other official language test attesting to your knowledge and skills. This document must be provided when you submit your application or select your courses. Letters from faculty members or program directors will not be accepted.

Francophone students

If you have completed your elementary and secondary studies in French, you are not required to provide proof of French language proficiency.

English

The level of English language proficiency is determined in accordance with your university’s minimum requirements. Your university must ensure that you have the required English language skills; otherwise you are at risk of failing courses.

Tuition

If you are enrolling in the bilateral exchange program, tuition is payable to your home university.

If you are entering the fee-paying exchange program, tuition is payable to Université Laval or your home university, based on the agreement entered into between the two universities. Tuition is based on the number of credits you will be undertaking per semester. The fees vary according to your academic level and home country. To find out more, refer to the tuition page.

Depending on your situation, you will have to cover fees for health and hospitalization insurance as well as activities carried out as part of the French as a second language courses.

Nominations

Your university is responsible for selecting students who qualify for the bilateral exchange program and sending us your contact information, if applicable. The nomination period begins in January for the fall semester and in late August for the winter semester.

If you are studying at a university with which we do not have a partnership agreement, you may be eligible for our fee-paying exchange program. For more information, contact us at international@fsa.ulaval.ca.

Once your university has sent us your contact information, we will send you an email asking you to fill out an application form.

Deadlines for application submission

Fall semester and full year: April 15
Winter semester: October 15

Documents to provide

Transcripts from every academic year, including those from your current semester
“Licence” or “bachelor” diploma (bac+3), if you are studying at the master’s level
Proof of French language proficiency, if you wish to take business courses in that language

If you are submitting an application for the fee-paying exchange program, you must also provide us with your transcripts from the baccalauréat de l’enseignement secondaire, if applicable.

Letter of admission

The letter that confirms your admission is sent by email. All of the documents required along with your application must have been received in order for us to send you the letter of admission. Université Laval does not send paper copies of this letter.

Your letter of admission is sent to the email address you will have provided in your application form. We suggest you check your spam folder on a regular basis.

Immigration Procedure

Once you have received your letter of admission, you can begin the process with the immigration authorities in Québec and Canada. The procedure and requirements depend on your country of citizenship and the length of your studies (one or two semesters).

Health and Hospitalization Insurance

Exchange students are automatically covered by Université Laval’s mandatory health and hospitalization insurance policy. No action is required on your part to register. Before arriving in Québec, be sure to carefully read the terms and conditions regarding the insurance coverage.

Coverage begins automatically on August 15 for the fall semester, and on December 15 for the winter semester. The invoice for the insurance fees will be sent to you in late September for the fall semester and in late January for the winter semester.

You could receive an exemption from Université Laval’s health and hospitalization insurance if your country of citizenship has entered into a reciprocal social security agreement with the Québec government. If this is your case, you are eligible for the coverage provided under Québec’s public health insurance plan and administered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

Housing

On the Université Laval campus, 2,300 rooms are available for rent, located in three buildings including one reserved for women.

Living in residence is a housing option that provides you with a furnished and affordable living space in a welcoming environment. In addition to the variety of services offered and the stimulating multicultural environment, you can enjoy the benefits of living right on campus.

To reserve a room in the university residences, you must fill out a form you will receive along with your letter of admission. Rooms are rented on a first-come, first-served basis.

Welcome Days

To ensure that your studies get off to a good start, the team at the International Relations and Development Service is organizing Welcome Days to be held the week before the start of the fall and winter semesters.

This is your opportunity to learn more about your new living environment and get to know your fellow students and the various resource persons at the Faculty.

Transcript

At the end of each semester, all students receive a free transcript sent by regular mail to the address indicated in their file. In compliance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, the Registrar’s Office only sends transcripts to students and not to institutions.

Fall semester: sent at mid-February
Winter semester: sent at mid-June

You can therefore provide your home university with your own transcripts, or you can ask for a copy of your transcripts, which will be sent directly to your coordinator (a fee will be charged). If you leave without providing a valid forwarding address, you will have to order another copy and also pay a fee.

If you still have unpaid fees

If you have unpaid fees (health insurance, library, residence, etc.), you will not receive your transcripts until you have paid the balance owing. Consult the page titled renseignements sur les études/droits de scolarité on Capsule (in French only) for more information.

Documents to be signed

If you must have a document signed for your home university or a scholarship organization (e.g., a learning agreement, an arrival/departure certificate or a stay confirmation), you must submit it via the Document Signature Request Form and follow the instructions provided.

Learning agreement cannot be signed before confirming your course selection in:

mid-December for the winter semester,
mid-June for the fall semester.

A document that confirms your list of courses and the dates of the semester will be automatically sent to you via email upon confirmation of your course selection. This document may be used as official proof with your home university or scholarship organization.

Arrival certificates may only be signed once you have physically arrived on campus.

Université Laval’s Registrar’s Office can issue an enrolment certificate. To submit a request, go to monPortail (in French only) in the “Documents officiels” section. Fees apply.
