An Event to Celebrate Excellence in Teaching and Research

Thursday December 15th, 2022

The pandemic has had a major impact on how we teach and work in many regards. While FSA ULaval can proudly point to its extensive expertise in techno-pedagogy that has helped ease this transformation, it is nonetheless the individuals involved who have made it possible for teaching and research activities to carry on smoothly. December 9 was an opportunity to celebrate some of these professors, lecturers and instructors as part of the Rendez-vous de l’excellence en enseignement et en recherche.

This event, held as a lunch gathering for the first time, was led by Roseline Boyer, faculty manager for information technology and pedagogical support. This was an opportunity to not only exchange ideas, but also to honour the individuals in attendance by presenting them with awards and recognition.

The event began with 126 Socrates awards covering 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 being given out by Margaret Schomaker, Vice Dean of Academics, Student Affairs and International Accreditations and Frank Pons, Dean of FSA ULaval. These awards are given out every year to teachers who have stood out in their students’ course assessments.

As the name suggests, this recognition is awarded to individuals whose publications have reached the 1,000-citation milestone according to the Web of Science, Core Collection reference system. Nizar Souiden crossed that threshold in 2022, whereas Catherine Paquet surpassed it in 2021, thus becoming the first woman to receive this faculty honour.
