FSA ULaval Commits Once Again to Its Student Community
Monday May 15th, 2023
The Campagne Communauté ULaval was launched on April 17, and FSA ULaval Dean Frank Pons was delighted to serve as Co-Chair. In this campaign, Université Laval employees and retirees are invited to donate in order to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and training of the next generation.
For several years, FSA ULaval faculty members and staff have made their mark in philanthropic campaigns with a very high participation rate. Last year, they altogether donated nearly $50,000.
This year once again, FSA ULaval wishes to position itself as a leader in the campaign. The Faculty encourages its community to donate to the Financial Insecurity Fund, which supports students who do not have the financial means to pursue their studies. The many testimonials from individuals who have benefited from the Fund over the years remind us all of the importance of these donations, which change lives and provide people with an opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Financial Insecurity Grant
I quit my job and full-time studies in the winter of 2022 due to burnout. For the first time in my 8 years of post-secondary studies, I had to stop and take a hard look at my life and career goals. I then realized my place was in the CPA profession and, with unbridled motivation, I decided to go back to full-time studies in the fall of 2022. However, given that I was ineligible for financial aid from the Québec government, I needed financial support to cover my tuition fees for my final year of undergraduate studies.
Now, my studies are going much better. My courses give me great joy, and I’m always happy to see my classmates in the in-person classes. My varied courses in financial accounting, taxation and ethics, among others, remind me every week that I chose the right career for me.
Given the lack of funding to cover my tuition fees, however, I had to take out a loan via a line of credit that I had opened as a precautionary measure. Finding out that my application had been accepted took a huge load off my shoulders, as I knew that I would be able to repay my loan this fall and focus on my exams thanks to your generous donation.
Your financial support will thus contribute to my academic success, and allow me to achieve my career goal of providing unique expertise to Québec’s accounting profession.Student

I received a master’s degree in civil engineering (transportation specialization) from Najafabad University in Iran. Over the last 8 years, I have been involved in my family’s construction business, which is located in Iran and neighboring countries. Many years ago, my goal was to improve my business management skills. I therefore did some research to find a university that met my criteria. Université Laval employs professors with solid experience in the field of management. Furthermore, being able to conduct business anywhere in the world has always been one of my goals, so the Global Business program has been of great benefit to me.
After I graduate, I hope to use the skills I have acquired to find a job in Canada. I would like to work in the fields of data science and digital marketing. In order to learn and improve my skills in these two areas, I spend three hours a day learning and participating in online courses, in addition to attending my university classes. With my status as an international student and expatriate, I need to work to cover the costs of my studies. Given the economic situation in my home country, my current income and the money I had saved before coming to Canada do not cover my day-to-day expenses. I am very thankful to the person who donated this grant for providing me with this financial assistance. This grant has definitely made my academic journey and experience at Université Laval much more enjoyable and positive.
In my second semester, I will do my best to achieve an excellent grade point average. I want my donor to know that I will do everything I can to improve academically. Thanks to him, who cares about my well-being and that of students like me, I am motivated to pursue my studies and to progress both academically and personally.
Bonne campagne!
