Professor Maurice Gosselin Receives Major Career Recognition From the CAAA

Every year, the Canadian Academic Accounting Association (CAAA) presents various awards to professors who embody the Association’s values and mission: innovation in accounting education and research. These include the George Baxter Award for Outstanding Contributions to the CAAA. FSA ULaval Professor Maurice Gosselin  was the recipient of this prestigious honour in 2023.

The Awards Committee pointed out that this choice was based on Professor Gosselin’s many notable contributions to the CAAA over the last decades. He has served as:

• President of the CAAA in 2012-2013;
• Member of the CAAA Board of Directors in 1999-2000 and from 2011 to 2014;
• Member of the L.S. Rosen Award Selection Committee from 2005 to 2010;
• Member of the Selection Committee for the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Contemporary Accounting Research in 2018-2019, and member of the journal’s Editorial Committee from 2000 to 2020;
• Member of the Research Grant Committee at CPA Canada and the CAAA in 2018-2019.

This is in addition to his innumerable pedagogical contributions to the accounting profession via his involvement with CPA Canada, and the former CMA Canada and CGA Canada.

At FSA ULaval, Professor Gosselin’s contributions are just as extensive, and his talents as an educator and researcher equally recognized. These have earned him a Hermès Award for Research Excellence in 2003 and a Hermès Award for Excellence in Community Relations in 2014. He is also the recipient of 3 Socrates Awards (2020-2021, 2019-2020 and 2010-2011) in recognition of the quality of his teaching. The George Baxter Award is yet another major recognition of the work he has accomplished since the beginning of his career.
