Lieutenant-General Jennie Carignan in Private Conversation with 7 Alumni

On November 15, FSA ULaval invited 7 Université Laval alumni to meet Lieutenant-General (LGen) Jennie Carignan from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) for a private 60-minute meeting.

The various topics addressed during this discussion with Sofia AkandéAnnie Jane BoutinÉlizabeth CoulombeAnnie CoutureÉlyse MasseBéatrice Robichaud and Victoria Thân included:

  • Her journey in a very male-dominated military world
  • Her crisis management strategies in Iraq and Afghanistan
  • Conscious leadership
  • Work-family balance with 4 children and a military spouse
  • The importance of businesses becoming more human and socially engaged
  • Succeeding outside one’s comfort zone
  • Remaining consistent with one’s personal values

In April, LGen Carignan was promoted to her current rank and assigned to a new position created within the CAF: Chief, Professional Conduct and Culture. 

LGen Carignan is also an FSA ULaval alumnus and, in June 2019, she received an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration, the highest honour bestowed by Université Laval.
