A First Symposium for the AMF Research Fund for Integrated Risk Management in Financial Institutions

On May 11 and 12, the AMF Research Fund for Integrated Risk Management in Financial Institutions – under the governance of Chairholder Claude Fluet – held its first major event.

At the meeting entitled Pandemics: Economic and Financial Insights, the organization wanted to present a few leading studies on the economic and financial dimensions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The symposium attracted world-class researchers and nearly 150 attendees.

A number of topics were covered in this symposium, including:

• Consumption Dynamics in the COVID Crisis: Real-Time Insights from Transaction and Bank Data (John Galbraith, McGill University)
• A Pandemic Business Interruption Insurance(Pierre Picard, École Polytechnique [France])
• Debt-Relief Programs and Money Left on the Table: Canada’s Response to COVID-19 (Nicolas Vincent, HEC Montréal)
• The Welfare Benefits of a COVID Vaccine (Christian Gollier, École d’économie de Toulouse)
• Longer-Run Economic Consequences of Pandemics (Alan M. Taylor, University of California, Davis)

The symposium was presented by the Canadian Society for Economic Science and the Centre de recherche sur les risques, les enjeux économiques, et les politiques publiques (Research Centre on Risk, Economic Issues and Public Policy) (both in French only).

About the new AMF Research Fund for Integrated Risk Management in Financial Institutions (in French only)

As a structuring hub to oversee risk management activities with an integrated vision, the Fund fosters the deployment of risk management learning activities that are both relevant and innovative, and that will train a next generation of forward-looking and influential professionals. Through multidisciplinary research, the Fund aims to develop cutting-edge knowledge in integrated risk management and to play a key role in transmitting this knowledge. It relies on the support of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF).
